Resubmission (A1)
Also called: A1 application, Amended application, Resubmission application
An NIH resubmission (A1) is a revised version of an unfunded application (A0), allowed once, with a short introduction that responds to the reviewers' critiques in the summary statement.
NIH accepts only a single resubmission (A1) of a new, renewal or revision application (A0). You must have received the summary statement from the earlier review before you resubmit.
The introduction, one page or less unless the funding opportunity says otherwise, summarizes substantial additions, deletions and changes and responds to the weaknesses raised in the summary statement.
Do not mark changes in the body of the application with brackets, bolding, underlining, colored fonts or any other markup. Describe the changes only in the introduction.
If the A1 is not funded, a later new (A0) application must not include an introduction responding to the earlier critiques.
